Background on Anthony Edwards

Anthony Charles Edwards is an American actor, director, and producer. He is best known for playing Dr. Mark Greene on the first eight seasons of the television series ER, for which he won a Golden Globe Award in 1998.

Edwards was born in Santa Barbara, California, on July 19, 1962. He is of English, Irish, Scottish, and Welsh descent. His father, Peter Edwards, was a television producer, and his mother, Mary Ann (née Cripe), was a former actress.

Edwards attended the University of California, Riverside, where he studied drama. He began his acting career in the early 1980s, appearing in small roles in films and television shows.
